I'm not sure Leanne Taylor needs an introduction, but it is a huge honour to give her one here. I am beyond excited to introduce swim coach Leanne Taylor! I had the chance to swim against her her at the Peace Gardens triathlon relay race (guess who won... not me) and chat with her at the TriMb AGM and Awards Ceremony (where she was awarded 2024 Elite Triathlete of the Year, and I got to hold her 100% for real paralympic medal from Paris). She is all kinds of amazing! She is kind and funny, and an incredible athlete.
While I could have copy-pasted her bio from any number of sites she is featured, I've asked her to tell us a little bit about herself:
I grew up loving all kinds of sport. I was a lifeguard, swim instructor, volleyball player and in university a recreational triathlete. In 2018 I became paraplegic in an accident. Shortly after this, I found a new sport – Paratriathlon. The Manitoba triathlon community welcomed me with open arms and helped me to fall in love with the sport of Paratriathlon.
Some people say that when you do what you love, you will never work a day in your life. I disagree; I think that when you do what you love you are willing to work at it every day. That is what I did with triathlon, and it paid off in 2024 when I earned a bronze medal in Paratriathlon at the Paralympic Games. I am passionate about introducing others to the sport that means so much to me and look forward to the opportunity to share in the best part of triathlon – the community.
